Hampton School District One wasthe recipient of two grants to support curriculum, instruction, and assessmentin the arts for the 2011-2012 school year. The two Arts in Education Grants wereawarded from the South Carolina Arts Commission. The first grant was a districtArts in Basic Curriculum Advancement Grant in the amount of $5,941. The secondgrant was a school-level Arts in Basic Curriculum Advancement Grant in theamount of $2,970 for Brunson Elementary. The Advancement Grants are awarded toABC (Arts in the Basic Curriculum) schools and districts for operating supportof fine arts programs. Funding was used locally to support artist-in-residentprograms in the area of dance. The ABC Project promotes arts education andprofessional development through the collaborative efforts of the SouthCarolina Arts Commission, South Carolina Department of Education, and WinthropUniversity. Christine Fisher is the Director of the ABC Project and SusanDuPlessis is the Participation Program Director and County Arts Coordinatorserving Allendale, Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester,Hampton and Jasper counties for the South Carolina Arts Commission. Congratulations to Tyler Martin, Jennifer Meshach, Chandler Mole, Tyler Tuten, Anthony Wells, Aja Willis on being named to the South Carolina Band Director's Association Region 4 Honor Bands. The students recently performed at Charleston Southern University.

The Baillie Players will return as our Theatre Artists In-Residence for the 2011-2012 school year. Performances will include The Snow Queen, The Wizard of Oz, Hansel and Gretel, and Romeo and Juliet.
